A modern reimagining of an older Montclair home
Seated on 1.5 acres in the estate section of Montclair, New Jersey, this home was ready for a complete gut renovation to bring it up to date. The home’s original space wasn’t used properly and the homeowners sought a new look that would maintain the home’s historic integrity while modernizing the property.
Our clients, originally from the Midwest, were ready for their dream home when they settled in Montclair. When they purchased this Tudor, it had a red brick exterior and an outdated interior. They asked RTH Building Company to reinvent their older home into a more open and inviting living space for their family of four.
In only six months we welcomed our clients home to the warm, California-style Tudor of their dreams. The homeowners worked with RTH Building Company to completely renovate the home’s interior from top to bottom. That work began at the foundation, using expansive steel beams to create the bones of an extensive basement, and carried throughout the home to the upstairs suite.
The home’s interior is infused with warmth – from the neutral color palette balanced by blue and black to the use of wood, exposed beams, brass fixtures and steel windows for a touch of historical elegance. Unique light fixtures, hardware and subway tile lend a sense of industrial grace. We brought the home’s interior warmth outside to the exterior, losing the red-brick facade in favor of warm-white brick with beige accents for a timeless retreat this family can enjoy for a long time.
